All of the Gala proceeds support the programs and services of the Rocky Mountain MS Center, a national leader in MS research, care and treatment. Led by Drs. Tim Vollmer and John Corboy, our physicians at the RMMSC at Anschutz Medical campus operate the largest clinical research program in the country. They are even working on a vaccine and treat patients as young as 18 months as well as underserved patients including veterans and the working poor.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological disease that affects more than 2.5 million people in North America and Europe. MS is the leading cause of disability in young women and the second leading cause of disability in young men. The average age for diagnosis is around 30 years old. MS impacts people in the prime of their lives, not only affecting their central nervous systems, but their careers, families and quality of life.
It is not known what causes MS, nor is there a cure for it. There are, however, newer treatment options that for many patients can dramatically decrease their life-long risk of progressive disability and improve their neurological symptoms and quality of life. We are proud to say that our Center is leading the way in the search for more effective treatments.
For the past 33 years, the Rocky Mountain MS Center has been a leader in international efforts to discover the cause and find a cure for multiple sclerosis. The MS Center’s research scientists and physicians have contributed to both the understanding of the disease process and to the development of treatments that affect MS symptoms and slow progression.
The mission of the Rocky Mountain MS Center is to improve the lives of people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and their families through care, support, education and research. We are a Colorado-based nonprofit dedicated to changing the way we think about and treat MS in order to protect the futures of those living with the disease.
In addition to a robust research program, the MS Center practices a proactive, comprehensive care approach to disease management. The MS Center’s multi-disciplinary team of physicians, nurses, therapists and support staff provide the most aggressive, hands-on care in the safest way possible. From clinical care to hydrotherapy classes, caregiver training to assistance in filing for Social Security Disability Insurance, the MS Center is present throughout the MS journey.
